No repeats
I am disappointed when your cover CDS present works that you have already featured, such as July’s Rachmaninov Second Symphony or the recent Richard Strauss Alpine Symphony. I accept that many readers were not in at the start, 26 years ago. However, part of the pleasure of subscribing to BBC Music Magazine has been discovering so much new (to me) music. If you had, say, featured Rachmaninov’s Third Symphony or Strauss’s Heldenleben, surely readers whose collections don’t go back as far as mine would hardly be deprived?

The editor replies: As a rule, we try to feature repertoire that we’ve not covered before. Occasionally, though, we may want to include music that complements features within the magazine or, simply, hear a performance that is so good that we want to share it with the readers. See below…
