Welcome
For me there is nothing more exciting than making a musical discovery, and I like to think that these pages serve as a portal to new sounds and adventures in listening. Of course, one person’s discovery might be another’s old favourite; but as the review of our Recording of the Month proves, even the familiar can be rediscovered and make you fall in love all over again. At least two of this month’s choices are recordings of music written centuries ago, that are evidently still as vital and thrilling as ever. But are the old ones really the best? There are comparatively new works reviewed in the following pages, by the likes of Robert Saxton and Alexey Shor, that might change your mind if you think so… but it depends how adventurous you’re feeling!
