Ina Boyle
(1889-1967)
Receiving music lessons in Enniskerry, Ireland, from both her father and governess,
Boyle composed from an early age. She went on to study in Dublin with Charles Kitson and, while caring for her parents and the family estate, entered composition competitions. Her relative isolation meant she had few opportunities to promote her talent, though the Carnegie UK Trust published her most successful work, The Magic Harp, in 1920. Boyle also studied under Vaughan Williams, in London from 1928, though she retreated to Ireland when war broke out.
