Three to look out for…
Anaïs Gaudemard Harpist
Born: Lyons, France Career highlight: It’s always moving to win awards and be rewarded for your efforts, but it was recording my first album of harp concertos that helped move my career along. Still, the best is yet to come.
Musical hero: Composer Nadia Boulanger, because of the breadth of her knowledge and the openness of her mind. She was an extraordinary pedagogue, and had a different approach for every student.
Dream concert: A ‘carte blanche’ concert that I would share with artists I admire: musicians, dancers, writer and actors. Perhaps in the ancient theatre of Taormina in Sicily.
Kian Soltani Cellist
Born: Bregenz, Austria Career highlight: Receiving the Creditsuisse Award and then making my debut playing Dvo ák Cello Concerto with the Vienna Philharmonic at the Lucerne Festival. It was incredibly emotional for me as an Austrian. I then played the same concerto with the Berlin Staatskapelle and Barenboim – it was a very good month! Musical hero: Composer Jacob Collier is a great inspiration. He combines the past and future potential in music, and it will be really interesting to see how he evolves.
Dream concert: To perform with Jacob Collier! I could play the cello with him on his multi-instrumental electronic set-up.
Marie Perbost Soprano
Born: Paris, France Career highlight: Performing the role of Pamina in The Magic Flute for the first time at the Salzburg Festival. Singing Mozart in that environment was a dream come true.
Musical hero: Soprano Barbara Hendricks is a wonderful artist as well as a beautiful human being. She has set a brilliant example of how I’d like my career to shape up.
Dream concert: An orchestral recital conducted by a hologram of Leonard Bernstein with a hologram of Maria Callas doing duets alongside me! Joking aside, I am actually sceptical about this new trend – I doubt we can ever replace the true pleasure of live music.
