The album, recorded in August at St Mary Magdalene church in Sherborne, features traditional and lesser-known European carols. The Secret Life of Carols is released by First Hand Records in December.
Also scheduled for a December release is Christopher Gunning’s latest (12th) symphony on Signum Classics. The disc, which also features the composer’s Second and Tenth, marks a new partnership between Gunning and the label. Signum will eventually follow it with reissues of his back catalogue of works, which includes chamber pieces and concertos.
Hyperion rounds o a busy year with the recording of Music for James IV by the Binchois Consort in September. Taking place in an anechoic chamber (a space with no reverb), an acoustic will be added in post-production. Also for the label, the BBC Symphony Orchestra records Paderewski and Gablenz, while Omer Meir Wellber conducts Tavener with cellist Steven Isserlis and the Philharmonia.
ATMA Classique tops o Berlioz’s 150thanniversary year with the first complete release of the composer’s arrangements of romances for voice and guitar.
