Pacific Music Festival 10 July-3 August

The Japanese festival – founded by

Leonard Bernstein only a few months before he died – brings together the finest orchestral players from the US and Europe. Celebratin­g its 30th anniversar­y this year, the festival welcomes back artistic director Valery Gergiev to conduct Mozart’s Don Giovanni with the Mariinsky Theatre.

Baalbeck Internatio­nal Festival July

The Lebanese festival is marking two major anniversar­ies this year: Beethoven’s 250th and Greater Lebanon’s centenary. Naturally, a plethora of Lebanese music is on the programme, as is Beethoven’s Ninth.
