Pacific Music Festival 10 July-3 August
The Japanese festival – founded by
Leonard Bernstein only a few months before he died – brings together the finest orchestral players from the US and Europe. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the festival welcomes back artistic director Valery Gergiev to conduct Mozart’s Don Giovanni with the Mariinsky Theatre.

Baalbeck International Festival July
The Lebanese festival is marking two major anniversaries this year: Beethoven’s 250th and Greater Lebanon’s centenary. Naturally, a plethora of Lebanese music is on the programme, as is Beethoven’s Ninth.
