Bach Collegium Japan’s recording of JS Bach’s St John Passion in March was more dramatic than they had planned, when they found themselves in Cologne just ahead of Germany’s coronvirus lockdown. Reducing the ensemble size as restrictions increased, they completed the recording and le the country just days before the border closed.
BIS will release the recording in October.
The English Chamber Orchestra made it to London’s Cadogan Hall for recordings at the beginning of July, marking Signum Classics’s first return to studio work since the UK lockdown began back in March.
The orchestra spent two days at the London venue capturing a mixed programme of familiar works by Elgar, Rachmaninov, Pachelbel, Saint-saëns and Tchaikovsky among others, for digital release ahead of an as-yet-unnamed album.
