We reveal who’s recording what and where...

Violinist Coco Tomita has recorded her debut album for Orchid Classics. Winner of the strings category at BBC Young Musician 2020, Tomita stepped before the microphone at the Menuhin School. Her album features works by Ravel, Poulenc, Lili Boulanger, Enescu, Debussy and Hubay. Orchid plans to release it early in the coming year.

Another BBC Young Musician, cellist Laura van der Heijden (winner in 2012) has signed an exclusive recording contract with Chandos. Her first recording under the new contract is already in the can and sees her perform works by Kodály, Dvo ák and Janá ek with pianist Jâms Coleman. The album is out in February.

The multi-talented Abel Selaocoe has been at work on a fascinatin­g project for Warner Classics. The cellist, singer and composer was joined by theorbo player Elizabeth Kenny, violinist Rakhi Singh and performers on African percussion for a recording at Church Studios in North London. The album, which features music by JS Bach, Marais and Selaocoe himself, is set for release in September next year.

The Night With… continues to draw a crowd with its intimate performanc­es in Glasgow, and the new music organisati­on is in the midst of releasing recordings from those shows on its TNW Music label. The latest features music by the likes of Ed Bennett, Marta Sniady and Timothy Cooper, performed by Duo van Vliet and Ensemble 1604 among others. It’s an exciting series and there’s much more to come in 2022.

Soprano Samantha Crawford and pianist Lana Bode followed their Oxford Lieder Festival appearance with a visit to the studio to record an album called dream.risk.sing for Delphian. Scheduled for release in the summer, it features Charlotte Bray’s Crossing Faultlines, plus works by Judith Weir, Helen Grime, Rebecca Clarke and many more.
