Three to look out for…
Luis Castillo-briceño Conductor Born: San José, Costa Rica Career highlight: Becoming a fellow conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra for the 2023/24 season, alongside my colleague Charlotte Politi; and being an Equilibrium Young Artist, mentored by Barbara Hannigan, since 2021.
Musical heroes: My former teacher, the composer Vladislav Soyfer, and the pianist Glenn Gould. Both were incredibly honest and dutiful musicians, full of conviction for their art.
Dream concert: It would have to be a night at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, with a Mahler symphony. And with the LPO, of course!
Rebeca Nuez Suarez Violinist
Born: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain
Career highlight: Every project is so unique that it’s hard to choose. But my real highlights have been the concerts I’ve performed back home in Gran Canaria. They all have a special place in my heart.
Musical heroes: Growing up, violinist Anne-sophie Mutter was my idol. I was also fascinated by musicians with very distinctive musical personalities, like Jacqueline du
Pré or Glenn Gould, or Hilary Hahn, Janine Jansen, Maxim Vengerov, Nicola Benedetti… there are so many extraordinary musicians to look up to.
Dream concert: To perform Vaughan Williams’s The Lark Ascending here in Britain.
Giorgi Gigashvili Pianist
Born: Tbilisi, Georgia Career highlights:
Two: my debut at the Berlin Philharmonie; and playing for Martha Argerich at her home. Musical heroes: I like female performers. They always have this left side of the brain that speaks and feels more than anyone else. So I’ll nominate Martha Argerich, Beyoncé and Marilyn Monroe. What I love most in art is the feeling that a performer and a spectator are the same. We feel the same emotions. Dream concert: Something where I can manage and direct the programme, lighting and stage direction myself. I really want to change how people perceive classical music.
