Bear in mind that spring arrives over a month later in the northeast of Scotland when compared to England’s southwest coast. Here are five UK locations to visit for your spring floral fix:

Lower Woods,

Gloucester­shire Wildlife Trust. One of the largest ancient woodlands in the southwest.

Warburg Reserve,

Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust. An incredibly rich mosaic of woodland and grassland in the Chilterns.

Bradfield Woods,

Suffolk Wildlife Trust. Steeped in history, this is simply one of Britain’s finest ancient woodlands.

Coed Felinrhyd & Llennyrch,

Gwynedd Woodland Trust. An extraordin­ary surviving fragment of the Celtic rainforest in Wales.

RSPB Abernethy Forest,

Cairngorms National Park. The largest remaining remnant of ancient Caledonian Forest in Scotland.
