HAWAIIAN TURTLES

Following a ruling by the US District Cou urt for Hawaii, the National Marine Fisherie es Service closed longline fishing around the islands from May to the end of December 2018. The federal court orde er was put in place to protect loggerhead turtles that become entangled and drown in the curtain of near-invisible lines and hooks set to catch swordfish.
