Stand up for wildlife
Mark Carwardine’s column (My Way of Thinking, July 2018) opened my eyes far wider than they were already. I knew about the killing of (and crimes committed against) conservationists worldwide, but I had no idea of the scale, nor the number of fatalities. I am frankly shocked. I’ve always had a deep love for the natural world, and an ongoing dream of mine is to work with anti-poaching teams to combat the illegal animal trade.
I fully support his views and think it is utterly heinous and wrong to kill people who are simply working for a better tomorrow. I will always be ready to stand up for the natural world. I just can’t believe that in the 21st century to do this would mean putting my life at risk. Thank you for one of the most informative and real pieces of conservation journalism I have read in a long time. George Steedman Jones, via email
How I agree with all Mark Carwardine has said. Until we can stop all these big businesses and corrupt governments making huge sums of money destroying our wonderful planet, this killing will not stop. We have to hit them hard in their pockets. I would also add, a lot more needs to be done to educate a younger generation on how to look after our planet and not destroy it. Well done, Mark. I will keep fighting even if only in a small way. Each person can make a difference. Never give up! Molly Glover, via email
