My friend and I visited the Saltee Islands, off the coast of County Wexford in Ireland, to photograph Atlantic puffins. This was my fifth time visiting the Islands, and it is always magical. I had to lay on the ground to get this shot of the auk with its mouth full of fish and lit up by the evening sun. I was elated and overjoyed at such a good result. John O’Brien, Arklow, Ireland

1 Hide and seek

I took this shot while visiting Yakushima, one of the Osumi Islands in Japan, for the first time. During a diving trip, my guide and I spotted this pygmy seahorse hiding in the soft coral. Reiko Takahashi, Iwate, Japan

2 Cosy crocodiles

I captured this image of two crocodiles in Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa. They rubbed heads and moved their bodies together, presumably as part of their courtship. John Boyle, Suffolk, UK

3 Stand your ground

My friends and I went on an evening safari at Bandipur National Park, India. We spotted a chital anxiously watching our movements. I was lucky that it looked straight into my camera lens. Ravi Av, Mysuru, India

4 Morning dew

It was early morning on Crowle Moors and I was looking for black darter dragonflies, when I captured this female in the mist, with the dew still on her wings. Kevin Robinson, Immingham, UK

5 Rise and shine

On an evening safari in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya, we spotted this beautiful lioness yawning after a good sleep, before heading off with the pride to hunt. Sajan Raju, Kerala, India
