‘UPSKIRT VIDEO’ FURY FERMANAGH SCHOOL FACING ACTION FROM TEACHERS AFTER OFFENDER IS KEPT ON

A TEACHERS’ trade union is balloting its members for industrial action at a prestigious Co Fermanagh school which was the focus of an ‘upskirt video’ investigation.

The National Union of Schoolmasters/Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) has 32 members at Enniskillen Royal Grammar School, where a pupil made upskirt videos of two female teachers in 2015.

After an investigation, the pupil was suspended for 17 days, but was not expelled. The matter was referred to the PSNI, but the Public Prosecution Service decided not to prosecute the pupil, who remains at Enniskillen Royal.

If the vote backs industrial action, NASUWT members at the school may refuse to teach the pupil.

It’s understood that the ballot — known as a ‘refusal to teach’ ballot — is already under way.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph last night, NASUWT national official for Northern Ireland, Justin Mc- Camphill (left), said his members were very unhappy about the situation at the school.

“We are fully prepared to take whatever action is necessary to defend the health and safety of our members,” he said.

“This is a difficult time for the two members involved, but we will robustly defend their interests — particularly when the school is failing to do so. Our priority is the health and safety of our members, and we do not think the school has been doing enough to protect that”

The result of the ballot will be known early next week, Mr McCamphill added.

Another union, the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), has 24 members at the school.

The ATL said it was concerned there may be other victims “as yet unidentified” captured on video.

In a statement, Enniskillen Royal Grammar School said last night: “Given the complex and sensitive nature of this issue for all concerned, we are disappointed that this is being dealt with in the media.

“It is not appropriate for the school to comment further.”
