Man charged with murder of loyalist
A MAN is due to appear in court today charged with the murder of a loyalist in a busy supermarket car park.
Colin Horner (35) was shot dead by a lone gunman outside a Sainsbury’s store in Bangor, Co Down, on Sunday, May 28.
The killing happened moments after he had put his threeyear-old son into the back of his car.
The PSNI said a 29-year-old man from Newtownards has been charged with the murder, along with possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life.
He is due to appear before Ards Magistrates Court today.
Mr Horner was a friend of former south east Antrim UDA boss Geordie Gilmore, who was murdered in Carrickfergus in March as part of a loyalist feud.
Investigating officers, who believe a total of six bullets were fired during the shooting, previously described the killing of Mr Horner as “barbaric and reckless”.
