Open champ defiant after house is burgled

-

GOLF star Henrik Stenson has vowed he will not be rattled after his rental home was burgled as he played his first round at Royal Birkdale.

Cash, watches, electrical items and clothes are reported to be among the items stolen from the defending Open champion.

The Swede (right) discovered the burglary after returning to his rental house following his first round on Thursday. However the famous Claret Jug was not among the loot, having already been returned on Monday.

Stenson vowed the incident will not put him off his stride.

“It is very special for me to be playing here in front of the fantastic Birkdale crowds as the defending Open champion, so I am going to try not to let this spoil the week,” he said.

“I am extremely grateful my family were not in the house at the time. “The Claret Jug was returned to the R&A on Monday but unfortunately, along with some valuable personal items, they have taken all of my clothing for the week.” Police said the stolen Hugo Boss clothing can be identified by a distinctive NETJETS sponsorship logo.
