Fans upset as Green and White Army’s World Cup dream dies

-

Andrea Moore: Gutted that the penalty incident was what decided the outcome, but that was a performance tonight to be proud of and even when the final whistle went, the GAWA fans continued to sing for their team. So proud to be a Northern Ireland fan. We’ll support you even more.

Ronnie Matthews: Give it a rest, guys. You’re behaving like a lot of six-year-olds in the school playground. To get back to the original subject, hard luck Northern Ireland, we lost the tie at Windsor, unfortunately, when we didn’t score.

Tom Halpin: The Swiss didn’t score legitimately. They got a ridiculous penalty.

Mark McCoy: Aye, but they were the better team in both games. That and the north were far too defensive at home.

Ronnie Matthews: Tom Halpin, couldn’t agree more. But, unfortunately, Northern Ireland didn’t create scoring opportuni- ties. If you don’t score, you just don’t win.

Glenn Fryers: I am proud to be a Northern Ireland fan. Gallant effort to get as far as we did. For all the size of the place, we punch above our weight. I didn’t even expect us to get second at the start of the tournament, so to be beaten by one goal by a team ranked 11th in the world isn’t anything to be too upset about. Onwards and upwards to Euro 2020.

Trevor Whiteside: Northern Ireland did well and it’s a pity, but there’s always a next time. Well done lads.

Liam Frazer: The old feathers have been ruffled tonight lads.

David Connor: Same old bitter trolls on here as on the Remembrance post. It is a football game. Sport. Trolls are spoiling for a row. Not much cognitive matter between their ears.

Michael O’Sullivan: Cognitions are brain processes, not brain matter. Paddy McDonnell: Sure, at least we have the Twelfth next summer. Who wants to go to Russia when we’ve to collect for the bonfire?

Christopher Barry: We are a tiny nation on a worldwide scale, with a tiny pool of players to pick from, but have always had fighting spirit and sense of togetherness and always against the harshest of odds. We should be very proud of our fans (impeccable behaviour) and our team and manager. Incredible efforts.
