HMRC warns of new Brexit pressures
THE additional pressures of dealing with Brexit could have catastrophic consequences for customs authorities, an influential House of Commons committee has warned.
HM Revenue and Customs believes that projects linked to the UK’s EU withdrawal could add 15% to its workload, said a Public Accounts Committee report.
The cross-party committee said the transformation programme under way at HMRC — involving the closure of offices around the country, relocation of staff into 13 regional centres and digitalisation of tax returns — is “not deliverable” as originally envisaged.
