Organisers rue poor turnout at paedophile hunters’ rally
THERE was a small turnout at a rally organised by a group of socalled paedophile hunters in Belfast city centre at the weekend.
Flags were erected on the gates of City Hall on Saturday afternoon saying ‘Free George Keenan’, with the names of fellow Predator Catchers NI members Richard Curtis, Tim Herron and Sharon Shanks also printed on them.
The four were questioned by police last month as part of an investigation into paedophile hunting groups. Keenan, who had been bailed, was later remanded in custody for breaching his release conditions by using social media, before being bailed again.
The rally organisers had predicted a turnout of thousands at the protest, and had planned to march to the BBC headquarters at Ormeau Avenue. But within an hour of the rally starting there were only around 50 supporters and the procession didn’t take place.
The Predator Catchers NI group later expressed disappointment on social media.
“Tens of thousands of followers and there’s not even a few hundred here to show support,” it said.
