Rugby’s St Joe has worked miracles

Last Saturday, I said a ‘hallelujah’, as promised, as Ireland’s rugby union team thrillingly won the Triple Crown and Grand Slam at Twickenham.

I watched it on television in very sunny Lanzarote, where my wife and I were celebrating a golden engagement anniversary on March 17.

The next day, a friend in Northern Ireland emailed an ingenious mock-up image of Joe Schmidt as St Patrick. Quite right too — ‘St Joe’ deserves sporting canonisation.
