Police continue to quiz man (28) over murder

- BY STAFF REPORTER

POLICE were yesterday continuing to question a man last night about the murder of Richard Scullion in Banbridge.

The PSNI yesterday made a fresh appeal for information after the 55-year-old was found dead at a house in Millmount Court on Monday.

Detective Chief Inspector Eamonn Corrigan said: “We are treating the death of Mr Scullion as murder and we are continuing to question a 28-year-old man who was arrested on Monday night.”

He revealed that earlier yesterday, police applied for, and were granted, an extension in relation to the suspect’s detention.

It is believed Mr Scullion was originally from Belfast, but had moved to the County Down town in recent years.

On Tuesday, Det Chief Insp Corrigan asked for anyone who had seen anything suspicious in the Millmount Court area on the evenings of Friday, July 6 or Saturday, July 7 to get in touch with the investigating team.

The senior officer said that investigators could be contacted by calling 101, quoting reference number 1000 09/07/18, or information could be given to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
