Student Eve talks her way into China trip
A STUDENT has won a UK-wide Mandarin Chinese speaking competition.
Eve Flood from Thornhill College scooped the Beginners’ prize in the HSBC British Council Mandarin Speaking Competition in London. Patrick Murray from Rathmore Grammar in Belfast came second in the same category.
Eve, who’s been learning Mandarin for only a year, faced competition from across the UK, winning a week-long trip to Beijing in China.
Eve said: “My parents think it’s fantastic that I’ve won, they don’t know much about Mandarin but they have been very encouraging and have instilled a lot of confidence in me.”
