‘Big Brother could be spying on us all!’
‘It’s been claimed that America’s Central Intelligence Agency (the CIA) and British spies have worked how to hack into smartphones and smart TVs, to effectively spy on people. People like you and me.
So, if you have a smart telly in your house, they could be watching you watching it… or not, because apparently it doesn’t even have to be switched on. You might already be starring in what I’m calling GoggleSpy.
We have a Samsung Smart TV in our bedroom, so they might have already seen us doing the obvious things that most people do in their bedrooms – sleeping, snoring… And I dread to think what else, because we do a lot of things in there we probably shouldn’t – eat crisps, drink wine, bitch about the neighbours and God knows what else.
Eek, the watchers will know that we have matching ‘jammies’, use hot-water bottles, ear plugs and eye masks, and sometimes we sleep in separate rooms if any of the above gets too unbearable.
OK, I’m joking, but actually this issue is very serious and quite frightening. You might think you have nothing to fear because you have nothing to hide but, believe me, we should all fear this kind of surveillance. It’s the stuff of George Orwell’s genius novel 1984, which you really should read if you haven’t already.
So, we’re taking precautions. Before bed, we unplug the TV and cover it with a sheet, but first we poke our tongues out, stick our bums out and give it the two fingered-salute.
