Ruth’s baby shock: ‘I’ll be your surrogate’

A heated debate about Caesarean births sparked a shock baby offer from Ruth Langsford last week...

- WORDS: PAUL CLEMENSON

Revelations that a photographer, hired to capture a baby’s first moments, had refused to attend a Caesarean delivery was roundly criticised as the Loose-Women panellists debated the subject recently. Unsurprisingly LW star Katie Price, who has had four of her five children by C-section, was appalled. Although she insisted she was in favour of the operation when planned, selfconfessed ‘ baby addict’ Katie revealed how two of her four Caesareans – resulting in the births of sons Junior, now 11, and Jett, three – had been traumatic experiences.

However, she said her maternity dramas hadn’t discouraged her from wanting ‘at least three more babies’.

With many doctors reluctant to perform multiple Caesareans on the same woman – though Katie insisted hers were comfortable with the risks – LW anchor Ruth Langsford, 57, jumped in with a suggestion, which stunned her fellow presenters.

‘I’ll have it for you,’ she told Katie, adding, ‘I always said I wanted another one. But I’m too old now. I could hand it over to you!’

Ruth, who has one son, Jack, 15, with husband Eamonn Holmes, 57, has spoken in the past about her regrets over her late motherhood.

‘ We toyed with the idea of having another but Eamonn [who has three older children by his first marriage] wasn’t exactly dancing with joy. I thought, “Do you know what, Ruth? Over the age of 40 you shouldn’t be pushing your luck,”’ Ruth said.

So could Katie be pushing her luck if she opts for more kids with hubby Kieran Hayler? She admitted that doctors ‘would have to watch her’, as there were greater risks with each additional Caesarean.

Despite this, Katie admitted, ‘It would kill me if doctors told me I couldn’t have any more.’

And although she promised the Loose Women audience that she wasn’t ‘ having any yet’, she added knowingly, ‘But I will!’

So don’t bet against another pregnancy for Pricey before the year is out. But we think broody Ruth will have to settle for babysitting duties!
