Sufferers can have symptoms at different times of the year depending on which pollen they are allergic to. It is possible to be tested for different pollen allergies, but this is not commonly available on the NHS. While 90 per cent of sufferers are allergic to grass pollen, with May to August hay fever, about 25 per cent are allergic to tree pollen – typically birch and oak – from January to April.
