‘Why are we married?’

-

Ruth Langsford questioned why she was even with her husband, Eamonn Holmes, recently after he admitted calling her ‘weird’.

The pair, famous for their squabbling, were discussing their new Channel 5 show, How The Other Half Lives, on The Late Late Show in Ireland. The 57-year-old Loose Women anchor said, ‘ We’re not compatible travelling together. Why are we even married?’

Eamonn then revealed he thought she was ‘weird’ on their first date, because of her bizarre fear of noises. He said, ‘Ruth has a condition called misophonia, which – in case you’ve never heard of it – is an irritation to any form of noise. Especially if it comes from me. These can include something as simple as breathing or eating soup...’

He went on, ‘ When I first started dating Ruth, there was a glass table in my apartment in London. I’d made her a meal and, as we sat down to start, she suddenly put her hands over her ears and said, “I can’t eat here – not on this surface.”

‘My first thought was, “Hmm, she’s a bit weird,” but I shrugged it off. Then I took her to the cinema and she did it there. And in the lift, the car...’ The pair celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary last month, but even then, Eamonn mentioned the ‘seven-year itch’ when a friend congratulated them. He said, ‘You know what they say about seven years and an itch, mate!’

Is it any wonder Ruth often looks so exasperated?
