Dawn’s fab pasty diet! ‘Eating is a lovely thing to do!’

The secret to comedian Dawn French’s svelte new look? Don’t deprive yourself (especially of the odd treat)...

- WORDS: RIANNE ISON

‘You don’t get to be spherical without liking eating things,’ said Dawn in 2014

Her weight has long been a topic of conversation, and just last week, Dawn French’s increasingly shrinking figure was attracting yet more attention from fans.

Dawn, 59, was showered with compliments after posting a photo on her Twitter account, where she looked slim in a dress from her latest collection for Sixteen47.

‘Oh, my word. Where’ve you gone? Looking great!’ one follower said, with another adding, ‘Looking fab.’

So the comedian’s diehard fans will surely be pleased to discover her golden rule to dieting – everything in moderation, including her beloved Cornish pasties. Now that’s a diet we can get on board with!

Opening up previously about her eating habits, the hilarious Vicar Of Dibley star said, ‘[Eating is] a lovely thing to do. We love tasting things. You don’t get to be spherical without liking eating things.’

The mum-of-one, who once tipped the scales at 19st before shrinking to a size 12, regularly speaks about her love of the Cornish pasty, sharing posts online of herself enjoying them.

Asked recently what her most memorable meal is, she didn’t hesitate, ‘It has to be my mum’s pasty. No shadow of a doubt. My mum couldn’t make a small one – only giant, battleship ones.’

Dawn’s pasty obsession is so well known that a fan made her a personalised one last year when she toured Australia with her stand-up show. Hubby Mark Bignell also pulled a prank, filling her favourite food with foam!

However, Dawn previously revealed an underlying health reason for the astounding 7 ½st she’s lost since 2012.

In 2014, during her onewoman show, 30 Million Minutes, the comic revealed that she was instructed to lose weight in order to undergo a hysterectomy, following a terrifying cancer scare.

Dawn explained, ‘The doc told me that, if I could lose some weight before the op, they would be able to do it via keyhole and I would recover in three weeks or so.’

The actress-turned-writer credited ‘ lots more walking for weeks and weeks’ with helping her to drop the weight.

Not only has she maintained her weight loss, which recent photos prove, but she’s also brimming with confidence.

As she recently said, ‘I’m happy to have my bosoms and would never surrender them to anyone.’

Keep up the good work, Dawn – and save us a pasty!
