1 Strike: The Cuckoo’s Calling

SUNDAY, BBC ONE, 9PM NEW SERIES It caused quite a splash back in 2013 when ‘Robert Galbraith’, the author of a critically acclaimed crime novel, was revealed to be none other than JK Rowling – who’d written the book under a pseudonym so it would be judged on its own merits. Now, it has been turned into a superb drama following the adventures of private eye Cormoran Strike (Tom Burke), and his assistant Robin Ellacott (Holliday Grainger). Set in the world of the mega rich and high fashion, the pair are asked to investigate the apparent suicide of a supermodel, who has plunged to her death from a Mayfair apartment. With witty scripts and fantastic performances from the cast – particularly the leads, whose ‘will they, won’t they’ attraction makes the screen crackle – this three-episode series is unmissable TV.
