If you haven’t had time to keep up with Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, we’ve done it for you…
Iver District Council in Buckinghamshire has set up two child-shaped bollards to warn drivers that they are near infant and junior schools in the area. The statues, which have cost the council £5,395, are designed to fool motorists into believing that a child is about to cross the road, but not everyone is impressed with the new safety measure. Not only do locals think that they are distracting – they also believe that they could be dangerous.
‘They look awful! They should have been normal traffic bollards,’ said resident Alison Major. ‘They’ll be knocked over in no time. When people know that they’re just bollards, they’ll continue as normal – so, if a child does step out into the road, the potential for them to get hit is still there.’
Would they distract you from driving safely, or make you more careful? What do you think? Let us know!
