Slim Kirstie’s diet secrets!
Queen of all things crafty, Kirstie Allsopp is showing off a fantastically slim frame – and now she reveals how she’s done it...
Kirstie Allsopp’s weight has fluctuated over the years, but these days she’s looking fabulous after dropping a whopping 2st. Her weight-loss weapon? Healthy-eating guru Amelia Freer, who has also helped musician Sam Smith and actor James Corden shed pounds, is responsible for the transformation, after Kirstie, 46, consulted her and started following her regime.
The Location, Location, Location presenter revealed, ‘I just found that, between the ages of 40 and 44, I started to put on weight. I’ve never been thin, but I’ve always been quite happy with where I was – but suddenly I wasn’t happy. I’ve lost more than 2st and gone from squeezing into a size 16 to squeezing into a size 12.’
Kirstie found it remarkably easy. ‘It’s not rocket science. The main tenets are three meals a day, with a five-hour gap between, and nothing between meals. The first bite should always be protein. Eat greens and proteins, and keep carbs to a minimum. And as for sugar – just end it, cut it out.’
Her slim-down is motivated by more than a wish to look svelte on screen. In 2014, she lost her mother, Lady Fiona Hindlip, who battled breast cancer for 25 years. Kirstie, who chose not to have a preventative mastectomy, has decided to focus on good health.
‘ We have a responsibility to be at our healthiest. Being overweight is not a part of that,’ she said. ‘I knew that being overweight on my 50th birthday was the number-one risk for breast cancer.’
On Amelia Freer’s 10-Day Nourish & Glow plan, you eat simple meals over a few days before reintroducing more regular foods, to discover what works for you.
‘Potatoes don’t suit me,’ said Kirstie. ‘ Wine doesn’t agree with me, either, so now I drink vodka Martinis. And I order two salads!’
The property guru, who lives with partner Ben Andersen in London, has also taken up exercise. ‘I do half an hour of running up and down hills in the morning to get my heart rate up,’ she said. ‘It’s a myth that you can exercise yourself thinner. It has to be done in conjunction with eating differently.’
Well, Kirstie, whatever you’re doing, you certainly look great!
