People are shocked that Aston and Janette were eliminated, but almost every year there’s a good dancer that goes early. The biggest shock I remember is Pixie Lott in 2014 – she was one of the best dancers the show has ever had, but she did a pretty poor cha-cha-cha one week – and one bad week is all it takes.

DADDY’S GIRL

My four-year-old daughter Aurelia came with my wife Zoe to see last weekend’s Strictly Children In Need special being filmed, and watch daddy dance with Anthea Turner. It was the first time she’d been old enough to come to the studio, which was lovely. Aurelia’s quite shy, so she didn’t say much, but you could tell she was excited!

Charlotte and I were reunited at a night for the charity hospice Ellenor, of which she’s a patron. They asked us to open the dance and, in minutes, most of the room was up dancing!
