Carol’s crisis talks
‘I am fascinated by Channel 4’s Seven Year Switch, a reality TV show where four couples spend two weeks in Thailand in a super-luxury villa in order to try to fix their troubled relationships. But there’s a catch, a big one – they’re not spending it with their partners, but a complete stranger. Oh, and there’s only one bed!
The plan is that it’ll either make or break them. So far, it doesn’t look good for any of the couples. The narrator keeps calling it, an ‘experiment’. I’m calling it complete madness.
I can’t fathom why anyone would agree to do it, as it consists of airing all your dirty laundry on TV.
Mark and I watched it together, and even though we don’t have anything like the problems the couples seem to have, it still made for uncomfortable viewing.
It did get us talking about if we would do it, though. Mark said he’d do it for the free holiday to Thailand, but then he remembered it wouldn’t be with me so he changed his mind. For me, I can’t think of anything worse than going to our special place with anyone but Mark. Plus, we don’t need it, we are fine.
But if we weren’t, I’d give it a go. I can see how it could help. Sometimes, knowing what you don’t want helps you find out what you do want. Time and reflection is always a good thing.
