Scarlett Moffatt comes under fire as diet controversy is revealed…
Scarlett Moffatt has been in the wars of late, amid accusations she pulled the wool over fans’ eyes about how she really achieved her dramatic weight loss.
Just two years ago, I’m A Celebrity… winner Scarlett, 27, became the poster girl for weight loss, dropping an astonishing 3st and five dress sizes – going from a size 18 to a tiny size 8 – with her first (and only) best-selling fitness DVD, SuperSlim Me Plan.
But last week it emerged that the former Gogglebox couch-potato-turned-fitness-guru, who has now regained some of her curves, had left out a significant detail about her transformation…
It’s been revealed that her dramatic drop in weight was helped by a stay at a gruelling weight-loss camp in Switzerland, where she followed a brutal daily regime of six hours of exercise and existed on a meagre 600 to 700 calories a day.
Scarlett, who reached No. 2 in the fitness DVD charts, has received a torrent of abuse since, with many accusing the star of ‘scamming’ fans.
While many defended the popular Geordie, others said they had ‘zero sympathy’ as they felt ‘lied to’, with one even asking for a refund, tweeting, ‘If lies are told to sell the DVD, then it’s conning people and they should all get their money back.’
To add to Scarlett’s woes, it’s been suggested that she may have to pay back her £100,000 fee due to a clause that reportedly stipulated she had to maintain her low weight for a year following the DVD’s release.
A spokesperson for the star confirmed that Scarlett had attended the camp, saying, ‘She did go to a boot camp and it was a horrid experience. She was put on a very low-calorie diet – but she categorically did not take any [diet] pills.’ Scarlett also publicly confessed that her weight-loss journey made her ‘miserable’.
Some fans felt huge sympathy for the star, who took to Twitter to thank them for their support, writing, ‘Honestly overwhelmed with everyone tweeting me lovely things. Thank you my lovelies.’
Let’s hope that Scarlett doesn’t resort to such extreme methods again. It’s unlikely, after all this fallout. But, more importantly, she’s yet another example of how extreme dieting for short periods is no long-term solution.
