Nadia’s family feud: ‘I can’t keep my mouth shut’

Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha opens up on the bitter rift that left her ‘heartbroken’

- WORDS: RIANNE ISON

Loose Women viewers are well accustomed to Nadia Sawalha lifting the lid on her private life – from her marriage to Mark Adderley to the challenges of the menopause.

But the TV host recently admitted that she was left ‘ heartbroken’ following a bitter family fallout.

Opening up on the show, Nadia explained that she endured a turbulent relationship with older sister Dina – which, at its worse, left them unwilling to speak to one another. Uncovering the reason behind the feud, the 53-year-old confessed, ‘ We’ve had some rocky times, but the culprit has always been men.’

She added, ‘Dina is good at biting her tongue, whereas I’m the total opposite.’

Nadia explained that her frustrations with her older sister came to an explosive head the day before Dina was set to tie the knot.

‘I was begging her not to marry her partner (they’re now separated), and we didn’t speak for a long while after that… I remember sending her a text saying, “I’m completely heartbroken” – I was.’

Fortunately, after a coolingoff period, the sisters agreed to put their bitter past behind them – and have grown close again. Nadia said, ‘Dina’s moved next door to me, and that’s been lovely.’

But this isn’t the first time Nadia’s sibling relationships have been put to the test.

She and younger sister, Ab Fab star Julia, 49, didn’t talk for 18 months between 2003 and 2004, following a bust-up about Julia’s then-partner, actor Alan Davies, 52.

They reportedly locked horns after Nadia sold pictures of her own wedding, which included a snap of Julia and Alan together. Apparently, this horrified Julia’s publicityshy boyfriend Alan, who Nadia – straight-talking as ever – later described as a ‘miserable git’. Still, as with Dina, Nadia and Julia eventually made their peace, and are now rock solid again. Who said families were easy, eh?!
