Following Ant’s arrest for drinkdriving in London, after a horrific car crash, his devastated telly partner has been forced to front Saturday Night Takeaway without him for the first time. And now, a question
mark hangs over their other presenting gigs, such as I’m A Celebrity…
But there’s always a silver lining and, in this case, it was the announcement – at the end of a few weeks from hell – that Dec, 42, was to become a dad for the first time.
In a heartwarming tweet to confirm that wife Ali Astall, 40, was expecting, Dec said, ‘The news has sneaked out a little earlier than we had hoped, but Ali and I are delighted to be expecting our first child. Thanks for all the love, we really appreciate it.’
The couple are thought to have been trying for a while, so they’re bound to be ecstatic.
Ali, who was actually Ant and Dec’s manager for over 10 years, tied the knot with Dec in August 2015 – Ant was best man.
It is thought that she got pregnant shortly after Dec left the jungle in December, following the latest series of I’m A Celebrity… There’ll be a bittersweet element to this, of course, coming in the midst of Dec’s troubled right-hand man being charged with drinkdriving and checking himself in for his second stint in rehab within the past year.
The contrast is particularly sad, as Ant is in the process of divorcing his wife, Lisa, after a 20-year relationship.
There is further poignancy in the fact that Ant has previously spoken about how he and Lisa had yearned to start a family, but had found it ‘tough’ – and both remain childless.
