Christine’s terror

She’s already been terrified by a stalker, and there was more horror in store for Christine Lampard as an intruder targeted her home

- WORDS: DEIRDRE O’BRIEN

Everyone’s home is their castle, so it was a terrible shock for Christine Lampard when her London home was targeted by a burglar.

The brazen thief attempted to rob the £10 million mansion in broad daylight – leaving the TV presenter and her former footballer husband Frank ‘shaken and terrified’.

The robbery was thwarted by their plucky nanny, who shouted at the intruder after catching sight of him in the garden of their home, causing him to give up his attempt to get into the house, which the couple share with Frank’s daughters, Luna, 12, and Isla, 10.

‘The nanny saw the man on CCTV and bravely went outside. She shouted, and Christine’s dog, Minnie, made a racket, which helped scare him off. It has left them shaken and terrified, especially Christine,’ a source reported.

As yet, no one has been arrested in connection with the attempted robbery.

While anyone would be upset at the idea of a stranger breaking into their home, it must have been particularly frightening for Christine to realise an intruder could get so close after being targeted by a stalker for the last few years.

The 39-year-old TV star is set to attend court, and give evidence from behind a protective screen, as she has allegedly been plagued by unwanted attention, in a campaign of harassment that has gone on for three years. The stalker is said to have turned up at Frank and Christine’s mansion uninvited several times, as well as harassing Christine using Twitter and sending her a letter.

Chelsea, the exclusive London borough where they have made their home, has recently been targeted by burglars, attracted by the rich pickings available from the homes of the wealthy residents. Householders have circulated warning leaflets after a spate of home invasions and thefts of expensive Range Rover cars.

Sensibly, Frank, also 39, and Christine have reportedly taken extra measures to protect their home – ‘ beefing’ up their security and seeking advice from an expert friend.

Let’s hope that they are successful and Frank and Christine – with help from Minnie and their nanny! – are left to enjoy a more peaceful home life in future.
