EAT UP AND FIGHT WRINKLES!

-

There are a million face creams, lotions and potions that promise to hold back time, and I should know. At 65, I’ve tried them all! Make-up artists are constantly praising my great skin and asking me what’s my secret potion…

I’m sorry to disappoint, but I don’t think there is a cream on the market that can truly banish wrinkles. I believe that the best way to keep skin line-free is to feed it from the inside out.

Start by eating clean, replacing processed foods with fresh, healthy alternatives. This doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive – it just means going back to simple, wholesome cooking.

Regular readers know I’d always advise you to stay away from sugar. Keep some grapes in the freezer for when you need something sweet (Calum loves this tip!).

Your skin is under attack from the environment 24 hours a day, and your most powerful weapon comes in the form of antioxidants, found in fruits and vegetables. The most potent is the camu camu berry, with 600 times more vitamin C content than oranges, along with moringa powder, rich in a plant hormone called zeatin that accelerates the growth of new skin cells.

Make a daily smoothie of a spoonful of moringa powder, a handful of dried camu camu berries (find these in any health food shop), some fresh fruit and a few veggies.

Here are some other skin-savers: Sardines, mackerel, spinach, broccoli and nuts contain co-enzyme Q10, good for stopping the signs of ageing. Prawns, crab and salmon contain astaxanthin, reported to improve elasticity and reduce brown spots.

Avocados, cucumber and blackcurrants contain silica, which strengthens connective tissue, while tomatoes are rich in lycopene, which helps to prevent collagen breakdown. So eat up and watch the years fade away!
