Coleen’s health shock

Coleen Nolan got quite a wake-up call during an episode of Loose Women

- WORDS: SHELLEY MARSDEN

Loose Women stars Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan and Nadia Sawalha gamely decided to have their chances of developing type 2 diabetes tested last week on the show.

They were joined by Countryfile presenter Anita Rani – who presents an ITV documentary next month, Diabetes: Fast Fix – to reveal their results.

Coleen and Nadia were put in the ‘moderately high risk’ category, with a one-inseven chance of getting type 2 diabetes in the next decade.

The ladies also had blood tests, which placed Ruth, 58, and Nadia, 53, in the ‘normal’ zone. Coleen, 53, alarmingly, discovered she was in the ‘pre-diabetic zone’.

Still, the mum-of-three, whose weight has famously yo-yoed all her life (she once joked, ‘There’ll always be a fat girl trying to get out!’), was philosophical, saying, ‘I’m not shocked… because my mum and sister both had type 2 diabetes in later life, and because of how I eat… I knew I was prone to it.’

Her pal, Linda Robson, 60, has revealed that the main reason she slimmed down to a svelte 10st was to reduce her diabetes risk. Left untreated, type 2 diabetes can lead to impaired kidney function, foot damage and serious eye problems, such as cataracts and glaucoma.

When Anita asked Coleen – currently divorcing from musician Ray Fensome – if she’d be ‘interested in completing a life overhaul to tackle the issue’, Coleen replied, ‘I hate guests like you. Go on, then.’

Will she really change her ways? Time will tell...
