Scarlett: Hefty and heartbroken

Could the Gogglebox star’s on-off relationship with Lee be causing her to comfort eat?

Such endless scrutiny would make anyone reach for that extra slice of cake

Having reportedly split from onoff boyfriend, personal trainer Lee Wilkinson for the second time in seven months, Scarlett Moffatt has come off social media, telling fans on Instagram she is taking a break. And now, recent images suggest the TV star is comfort eating…

When the former Gogglebox fave appeared in the crowd at Wimbledon last week, it was evident the curvy 27-year-old has piled on more pounds.

Online, people quickly made cruel comments about Scarlett’s changed appearance.

‘She needs to do something about her weight before it gets too far, it’s hard to come back to being slim,’ wrote one. ‘Sack of potatoes comes to mind,’ slammed another.

Pretty Scarlett’s weight has yo-yoed before, but has she turned to food to cope with her love troubles?

Lee has changed his social media picture to one of himself in the gym, and the pair have unfollowed each other, so it looks like it may be a permanent split, one it’s rumoured the bubbly Geordie did not want.

Psychotherapist Claire Hershman (clairehershman.com) says, ‘People often comfort eat because they have no other way of dealing with abandonment and loneliness.

‘Pain is pain, whether you’re famous or not. Scarlett also has the nightmare of constant scrutiny from the public.’

Scarlett, a self-proclaimed ‘couch potato’, clearly loves her food, too. The 2016 I’m A Celebrity… winner requested a ‘thick peanut butter milkshake, loaded nachos, a burger, onion rings and potato fries’ as her last meal in camp on the ITV show.

But Scarlett, who released her first fitness DVD in March 2017, faced a huge backlash when it was revealed that her weightloss – from a size 18 to a size 8 – had secretly involved a gruelling bootcamp, and eating very few calories.

Fans at the time tweeted they had ‘no sympathy’ for the Saturday Night Takeaway presenter, as a shamed Scarlett admitted, ‘I know it’s bad on my body, eating like 600/700 calories a day.’

Scarlett has also faced criticism about photoshopping selfies from her Instagram, with one follower declaring, ‘Scarlett Moffatt is such a hypocrite. One day she’s slim, the next she’s curvy.’

Such endless scrutiny from fans, on top of her turbulent love-life, can’t be helping – it would make anyone reach for that extra slice of cake.

Scarlett has admitted to struggling, too – confessing recently, ‘Motivation, where are you? I need you back.’

We hope she gets her mojo – and motivation – back soon.
