1 Age Before Beauty TUESDAY, BBC ONE, 9PM NEW SERIES This new Manchester-based drama has an impressive pedigree. Not only is it scripted by Debbie Horsfield of Poldark fame, but it boasts a pretty amazing cast, too. Polly Walker plays Bel, long married to Wesley (James Murray), who is suffering from empty nest syndrome now their twins have left home. Enter brother-in-law Teddy (Robson Green) who, to complicate matters, has long been in love with her, begging her to rescue the family business – a down-at-heel beauty salon. The high-maintenanc­e family also includes mother Ivy-Rae (Sue Johnston), and sister Tina (Lisa Riley). Polly says, ‘People will enjoy getting to know this family and they will hopefully get swept away with Bel’s story. This is about Bel and her emancipati­on. She is free to discover who she is for the very first time – it is exciting!’

2 The Real Marigold Hotel WEDNESDAY, BBC ONE, 9PM NEW SERIES A fresh crop of mature celebs set off to India, to see if the subcontine­nt could offer them a more enjoyable retirement than in the UK. The voyagers include Syd Little, Stephanie Beacham and Stanley Johnson. Unmissable.

Continuing their investigat­ions into the lives of the super rich, the daring duo visit Jacqueline Gold, who teaches Ruth how to host the best-ever Ann Summers party, and pop in on a billionair­e, whose Isle of Man home contains a £30 million art collection.

4 Bondi Vet Gone Wild SUNDAY, QUEST RED, 6PM

NEW SERIES What more could you want of a Sunday evening than a hunky vet and some cute animals? Dr Chris Brown heads to Thailand to assist with the release of two white-handed gibbons. He also saves the sight of a dog, and encourages a newborn baby elephant to breastfeed.
