Come Dancing for the next few months, but instead Tess Daly is having to deal with the embarrassing rumours around the state of her 15-year marriage resurfacing again.
It had seemed like Tess and hubby Vernon Kay had finally put his sexting scandal behind them as they cosied up together on a boat ride across Lake Como in Italy earlier this summer. The couple looked loved up as they posed for selfies while on holiday with their two daughters, Phoebe, 13, and nine-year-old Amber.
But like any woman, Tess, 49, is sure to have been left devastated when Rhian Sugden decided to bring up the painful affair again by writing Tess an open letter saying how much she regretted the pain she caused.
Rhian, who is set to marry former Coronation Street star Oliver Mellor, 37, said, ‘I deeply regret creating a friendship with Vernon and allowing him to continue speaking to me the way he did.
‘I should never have got involved with a married man. As time has passed I regret not being wise enough or strong enough to deal with my own issues and insecurities myself. The exchange of messages was inappropriate and I should not have encouraged such behaviour.’
Tess and Vernon’s marriage nearly ended in 2010 when it emerged the 44-year-old TV presenter had exchanged lewd texts with Rhian. He later apologised on Radio 1 to Tess, saying he had made ‘some stupid decisions’.
He added, ‘I have disappointed and I have let down a lot of people. I am very sorry.’
Tess forgave Vernon at the time, admitting, ‘All marriages have their moments. Vernon and I are just people at the end of the day.’
The dad-of-two also pledged to never again contact Rhian or four other women he’d sexted. But the couple’s marriage was put under fresh strain when it emerged Vernon had got back in touch with the glamour model in 2016, saying he wanted to ‘reconnect’ and ‘achieve closure’. He went on to send her hundreds of flirty texts and repeatedly tried to arrange secret meetings at a hotel.
Again, Tess put the embarrassment and betrayal behind her for the sake of her marriage.
But having to deal with all the details emerging for a third time would be tough for anyone to take.
