Victoria Beckham under fire
Has the unthinkable happened to Posh and Becks? Is Britain finally a little bit ‘over’ the Beckhams?
Long before America started Keeping Up With The Kardashians, the Beckham brood, aka Britain’s first family of fashion and football, had us hooked on their every move.
But, after a year of plastered-on smiles amid rumours of a marriage (and her fashion label) in trouble, it seems Victoria, 44, is now being slammed as a ‘narcissist’.
Her family has been labelled ‘unrelatable’ after she took her seven-year-old daughter Harper for a facial, while David, 43, posted a picture cosying up to their dog, Olive, wrapped in a Louis Vuitton blanket worth almost £5,000.
As one gobsmacked tweeter commented, ‘That blanket is worth more than I need for a house deposit,’ and another added, ‘They don’t realise that a picture with a reasonably priced blanket would make them relatable.’
Could it be that some of us have finally just had enough of them being so out of touch?
Ahead of Victoria’s recent launch with Reebok, the fashion designer – who normally hides her tiny frame beneath her elegant, yet usually loose designs – paraded her miniature figure for all to see on Instagram.
Then Victoria boasted her petite silhouette was the result of a ‘very disciplined diet’ and daily 5.30am workouts.
While some were swift to praise the famous mum-offour with compliments like, ‘ You look amazing!’, others were less than impressed.
One person wrote, ‘Once upon a time, I would laugh at Vicky the narcissist. Nowadays I feel sorry for her… I worry about her well-being.’
And it would appear that ‘ brand Beckham’ may be losing its golden touch.
It’s been reported that there have been some serious losses at Victoria’s fashion business. David’s menswear line, Kent & Curwen, was said in 2017 to have a deficit of £10.7 million.
Whatever happens to the nation’s first family (apart from the Royals, of course), they’ve weathered worse storms, given that, not so long ago, there was speculation as to whether their marriage would even last…
Still, it’s a worrying trend for a family that has relied for so long on support from the general public.
Perhaps the Beckhams should be more humble, instead of shouting about their lavish lifestyle on social media – and, in Victoria’s case, the lengths she goes to maintain her super-trim figure.
