1 Embrace your wabi-sabi

The Japanese concept of wabi-sabi acknowledges three simple realities: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect. We’re human beings, beautifully crafted by wear and tear, so revel in your imperfections. The wobbly bits, being picked last for netball, that mole, the lines on your face; they’re what make you you. You are a flawed beauty.

2 Stop musterbating!

Musterbation is when you turn things you’d like to have into things you absolutely must have. Here’s a subtle happiness point: buying stuff will make you happy. But the relentless pursuit of more stuff will make you unhappy. Knowing when you’ve got enough is crucial.

3 Celebrate Mondays

You spend a seventh of your life on Mondays – that’s way too much time to wish away. So, dare to be different. Mondays: bring ’em on. TGI Monday!

4 A random act of kindness

A short-cut to feeling happy is to do a good deed for another person. This can be as simple as letting someone out in traffic when you’re driving, or thanking the bus driver.

5 Chuck out your old knickers

Upgrade your undies so that every bit of your underwear oozes confidence. Stop saving your special smalls for a special occasion and wake up to the fact that life is the ultimate special occasion.

6 Cut your antisocial media by 50 per cent

Spend less time gathering electronic friends and more time with real, fleshand-blood ones. Happiness is a social thing.

7 Be a lover, not a hater

The world is full of trolls and haters. Why? Because it’s easy to be negative. Be passionate about who you are and what you do. Cease joining in with the critics.
