Nadia Sawalha has hit back after the backlash over her accidental ‘fat’ comment on Loose Women

She may not have meant it at all, but poor Nadia Sawalha really did put her foot in it on Loose Women recently!
During a debate about whether it’s ever acceptable to make fun of your partner’s weight – after Love Island’s Maura Higgins quipped that her man, Curtis Pritchard, was ‘more cheesecake than beefcake’ – Coleen Nolan was left stunned by a comment from her pal.
After Coleen, 54, revealed that her family teases her about her weight, Nadia, also 54, said, ‘But I don’t think you can be throwing away funny comments about people’s weight unless you really know them, because it can be so hurtful.
‘But you’re very comfortable with your fa…’ she continued, before stopping in her tracks and talking about something else entirely.
A shocked Coleen quipped, ‘ With my fat?!’ before smiling and adding, ‘ You were going to say “family” weren’t you?’
Nadia replied, ‘ Yeah, you would be happy with your family saying that. I mean, we all know we’re overweight, let’s not joke about it.’
Several stories followed in the press saying that Nadia had ‘mocked’ Coleen’s weight on the show – something Nadia hastily blew out of the water on social media.
The feisty presenter wrote, ‘I did NOT call @NolanColeen fat, I was about to say family, NOT fat! All the haters, just bog off, will ya! We’ve got work to do!! #bodyconfidence.’
And, in the video clip she posted, Nadia added, ‘So I’m actually really quite fed up, well, a bit upset, actually, that there are headlines going around saying I called Coleen fat on Loose Women today. Body confidence is something I really struggle with and something I try to do so much about on my social media.
‘I pride myself on being a woman’s woman… really understanding and looking into the whole experience of being somebody who struggles with the way that they look.’
Fans were quick to back Nadia, one commenting, ‘Don’t apologise, we all know you would never say such a thing – Coleen knows that.’
Another said, ‘As long as you and Coleen know the truth… you know you’re a good person and a woman’s woman.’
Still, it shows you what a difference a (poorly pronounced) word makes.
