Carol McGiffin: ‘Stop whining Meghan!’

THEWAY I SEE IT... Wise words fromour-feisty, fearless and funny columnist

-

‘When Harry met Meghan I was delirious. I’d been a fan of Harry’s forever and I loved Meghan, too, because she was in one of my favourite TV series, Suits.

I had high hopes for them because they were so in love, the wedding was perfect and they seemed destined for Royal greatness.

The press and the British public have never been fans, but I never believed any of the rumours about her being demanding or controlling, and have always defended them as a couple because I felt sorry for her. It can’t be easy being part of the Royal Family. But now, even MY sympathy has run out. It started to wane when Harry noticeably changed. The plucky character who seemed to genuinely care about his causes more than himself suddenly turned into an emotional wreck, breaking down during speeches and constantly talking about his and his wife’s ‘struggles’.

Of course, I’m not saying it isn’t good to talk, but lately he talks about little else, although they like to preach about climate change while swanning around in private jets. But it was the interview they did in Africa, where she was whining about her extravagant life while surrounded by under-privileged children that tipped me over the edge. Bleating on about their nightmare lives because of the press and media. Something Harry’s brother, William, wouldn’t dream of doing, so it’s no wonder he is said to be concerned by Harry’s behaviour. I never believed there was a rift between the brothers – but they have clearly grown apart. As Harry said himself, they’re on ‘different paths’. The thing is, all the crocodile tears are over something that is of their own making, and all while still taking the taxpayer cash for their lifestyles – the cottages, the travel, the wedding etc. The only way to make it stop, is to go away, get real and start behaving like Royals, not celebrities.
