Claudia Winkleman seems to have a massive girl-crush on Mary Berry
Quirky Strictly host and mum-of-three, Claudia Winkleman, has opened up about the new, special person in her life – and she sounds more than a little obsessed.
Speaking about her latest show, BBC’s Best Home Cook, where Claudia is joined by chef judges Mary Berry, Angela Hartnett and Chris Bavin, to judge the country’s best cooks on their culinary skills, the 48-year-old gushed about one judge in particular: baking supremo Mary, 84.
‘Mary Berry is the Queen!’ enthused the hilarious Claudia. ‘ You might think it’s Beyoncé, but trust me, it’s not – it’s Mary… She’s magnificent, isn’t she? We’re now in love, and live together.’
She continued, ‘ When I was first asked to do Best Home Cook with Mary, I didn’t even give a monkey’s what the actual format was. They had me at ‘Mary’. It could have been us in Hull discussing the history of the radish for two months, I wouldn’t have cared. My whole family had palpitations to hear I’d be working with her – they’re all Mary-obsessed like myself. In fact, I think she may have a restraining order out against me.’
Well, who could blame her? Mary is the nation’s sweetheart, after all. It seems even the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have a soft spot for the former Bake-Off star after hanging out with her for the heart-warming documentary they filmed together, A Berry Royal Christmas. And if she’s good enough for the future King and Queen, she’s good enough for Clauds!
Mary, jokes aside, is not the only love in the presenter’s life. The funny brunette has been happily married to her hubby – TV and film producer Kris Thykier – for two decades, and the pair have three children, Jake, 16, Matilda, 13 and Arthur, eight.
But Kris is more than used to having to share Claudia with another lady – given her close relationship with her Strictly co-host, Tess Daly. They say every blonde needs a brunette – so maybe it’s Tess that needs to watch her back, with Claudia’s new girl-crush Mary Berry on the scene...
