‘Haven’t we suffered enough?’ Some people are over Amanda’s rainbow!

Amanda Holden has done her bit for the NHS – but despite her charity single reaching the top of the charts, it’s sparked a mixed reaction…

On the same day everyone was wondering how we were in the month of May already, Heart radio presenter Amanda Holden released a cover of TheWizard ofOz classic, OvertheRainbow – with all proceeds going to NHS Charities Together.

The BGT judge, 49, recorded the song for her album, set for release later this year, and came up with the idea to release the song as a fundraiser, to help those on the Coronavirus frontline.

Amanda revealed that the NHS will always have a special place in her heart – indeed, she has previously thanked them for looking after her family when the star’s baby son was stillborn in 2011.

‘I’ve always said how amazing the NHS are, they have quite literally saved my life, as they have for thousands of others’, she said at the time.

‘Hearing all the amazing people calling in… sharing their stories from the frontline has made me prouder than ever to be supporting the NHS this way.’

On the subject of rainbows – drawings of which have appeared in windows across Britain, Amanda added, ‘The rainbow has given us all a ray of hope in this weird time – but I’m hopeful life will be better on the other side, as we all become more united as one.’

Her heart was most definitely in the right place.

However, some of those who listened to the new track weren’t so kind about the song – or Amanda, for that matter.

Though some Twitter users claimed she had ‘a heart of gold’ for raising money, others cruelly slammed the star: ‘Haven’t we suffered enough?!’, ‘There’s a good reason she never released a single before’, ‘Heaven help us all if this is what it’s come to… it’s all ME ME ME!’ Oh dear...

The day before the single’s release, Amanda shared a hilarious video of herself in a plunging swimsuit to her 1.4m followers, looking as if she was jumping into a large glass of red wine (it was a clever optical illusion). Well – we’re glad to see Amanda’s held on to her sense of humour. She may well need it (as well as that mammoth glass of vino) after some of the reaction to her musical offering!
