Johnny Depp: ‘She hit me!’ Is Amber Heard telling the truth?
When Johnny Depp and Amber Heard tied the knot in February 2015, it felt like Old Hollywood glamour had returned to the red carpets of the world.
But the fairy tale quickly began to unravel.
Just months into the marriage, accusations of aggression and abuse from both sides began to appear in the papers, with Amber filing for divorce 15 months later.
Now, the eyes of the world are on the former lovers, as they face each other in London’s High Court.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star, 57, is bringing a libel case against The Sun
newspaper, and its executive editor, Dan Wootton, over an April 2018 article, that referred to Johnny as a ‘wife beater’, who’d behaved like a ‘violent monster’ towards Amber during their relationship – claims which the father-of-two has vehemently denied.
The Danish Girl actress Amber, 34 – whose allegations against Depp were what The Sun’s original article related to – attended the explosive first day of this three-week libel showdown with her sister, Whitney.
There, she heard her ex called as the first witness and begin to give his testimony. Describing allegations from Amber as ‘complete lies’, he accused her of ‘punching him’ and ‘severing his finger’, claims which she denies.
The case has become a showdown between the former spouses who are both accusing each other of bad behaviour during their tempestuous marriage.
Both stars arrived in London the previous weekend to prepare for the trial, which is expected to see some other Hollywood figures – including Depp’s former partners Vanessa Paradis and Stranger Things’ Winona Ryder – give evidence in his defence via video link.
How this will end, only time will tell. But, as the court case continues, you can be sure there’ll be plenty more drama.
Already, it is starting to feel more like a Tim Burton movie than a Disney one…
