Amid rumours that TV presenter Vernon Kay could be set to enter this year’s I’mACelebrity jungle in a £250,000 deal, his wife, Tess Daly, 51, may secretly not be feeling so thrilled.
The 46-year-old from Preston has allegedly been approached by ITV to take part in the hit reality show which, due to Covid-19, may now be filmed in the wilds of Scotland, instead of the jungle temperatures of Australia.
It’s a high-profile slot, and 10 years after Vernon humiliated Tess – when it was revealed he had been ‘sexting’ glamour model Rhian Sugden – there may be a part of her that’s terrified at what fellow campmates might want to talk about around the campfire. It’s been the scene of many a confession over the years.
Poor Tess – it’s a time in her life she surely wants buried, but it still rears its ugly head. And the showbiz couple were, once again, a hot topic for all the wrong reasons just weeks ago, when Rhian Sugden appeared in TV documentary, Page 3: The Naked Truth.
The tearful 33-year-old lamented the idea of presenter Vernon ‘getting away with it’ after publicly apologising to Tess for the flirty messages.
At the time, the dad-of-two publicly apologised on the radio, saying, ‘I’m so sorry. I’ve been an idiot and I’ve let my family down.’ And Tess and Vern worked through their issues – but then, four years ago, the Family Fortunes presenter was hit with fresh allegations that he and Rhian were in contact again.
‘I recognise how it may look when messages are pulled out of context, but there was never any inappropriate intent to our communication,’ responded Vernon at the time. ‘I was merely trying to find answers to questions that I’ve had since 2010. Tess is aware of everything that has been discussed with Rhian.’
Since those whispers began about Vern’s potential trip to the jungle, social media users have been having a field day, guessing what might happen.
While one online commentator wrote that they ‘couldn’t wait’ for Vernon to appear on the show, others weren’t quite so kind. ‘They should get the Sugden woman in, too, wouldn’t that be fun to watch…’ said one. Another, ‘He can talk about how [sic] an amazing husband he is!’
If Vernon is in the jungle this year, we’d say it’s highly likely that Tess – who’ll be back on the box at the same time, cohosting Strictly with Claudia Winkleman – will be watching her husband on telly like a hawk, and no matter how much he’s prompted, hoping he keeps any talk of any past misdemeanours to himself...
