Meghan’s way: Shocks, snubs & sadness for Harry

Meghan and Harry may be thousands of miles away in sunny California, but they’re still making waves over here…

As Meghan Markle and Prince Harry – who last week revealed a shock multi-year, multi-million pound deal to create content with Netflix – settle into life in their luxurious mansion in Montecito, California, it must seem a world away from their previous life in the UK.

On the other side of the ocean, the Royals have been gathered for their traditional long break at Balmoral – which must have extra significance this year, as it’s the first time since lockdown they’ve all been together.

The Queen and Prince Philip travelled from Windsor to Balmoral at the start of August, while Kate, William and their brood are believed to have popped in, so the Queen could finally enjoy seeing her great-grandchildren.

Others – including Prince Edward and Princess Anne – were also visitors, but clearly that was impossible for Harry and Meghan.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have accepted an invitation to the Scottish estate back in March, and Harry seemed to express sadness at not being in the UK, saying on a video link recently, ‘I’d have been back already if it hadn’t been for Covid.’

It would be understandable if country-loving Harry was feeling homesick. However, California girl Meghan is said to be happy making a home for them Stateside. The couple were recently seen helping to plant a garden at an LA school in memory of Princess Diana.

But had the UK trip been able to go ahead, the atmosphere might have proved frosty. First, the explosive biography of the couple, Finding Freedom, must have ruffled feathers within the Firm.

And recently came the claim that Meghan had ‘snubbed’ her stepmother-in-law, Camilla, by ignoring her advice on how to cope with criticism. A pal told a newspaper she advised Meghan ‘to ride out the storm and that it would all pass’ – but ultimately the ex- Suits actress didn’t listen.

A travel ban between the UK and the US due to the virus means that Meghan can show Harry how things are done ‘her way’ in America…
